Shanghai New Yangsi District Urban Design was Awarded 2021 AIA Shanghai | Beijing Excellence in Design Award
On the evening of January 22, the 2021 AIA Shanghai | Beijing Design Awards annual gala and award ceremony was held at The Langham Hotel in Xintiandi, Shanghai, where the final award results were announced. EID Arch's project, Shanghai New Yangsi District Urban Design, stood out from 51 shortlisted entries and was awarded the highest honor in the Urban Design category—Urban Design - Urban Masterplan - Honor Award—at the 2021 AIA Shanghai | Beijing Design Awards.
The project covers a research area of 2.61 square kilometers, with the urban design area spanning 1.89 square kilometers. Based on the site's current conditions, the project is guided by the principle of "infrastructural urbanism," focusing on the upgrade of scalable, inclusive, and collaborative infrastructure. It aims to mend the fragmented urban fabric, constructing a public space system that balances both security and creativity. The goal is to create a livable, vibrant district that coexists harmoniously with nature, exploring a new paradigm of urban design with local characteristics. The project, with its internationally leading planning and design concepts, has become the winning proposal in an international urban planning competition. Currently, the revision of the detailed regulatory planning for the area is being advanced by the relevant planning departments.
