Located at the outskirt of Pudong District in Shanghai, Cambridge Robotics Valley (CRV) is master planned as a research, development and manufacture hub for robotics engineering and artificial intelligence industry. In contrast to conventional suburban business park, the design of CRV is intended to create a close-knit, coherent campus for cutting edge technology companies with unique spatial experience and atmosphere. The campus planning is conceived as a Green Valley, an undulating landscaped park knitting together different departments of the technology park. A cluster of robotics laboratory and R & D office buildings are placed around the parameter of the site to maximize the open space. The organization of the campus is centered around a sunken garden, which connects the amenities below grade with above ground activities. CRV aims to become an incubator for emerging artificial intelligence technology, while serving as a research and development platform for established robotics companies.
CRV Headquarter Building
Adjacent to a main thoroughfare of Kangqiao district, CRV Headquarter building comprises of headquarter office space, exhibition hall, conference facilities, and speculative office space at lower levels. CRV Headquarter features a free flowing, organic shaped atria to connect various departments of the building and leasing office space. This multistory void will function as a spatial connector within the organization, providing an enclosed atrium at upper levels for casual gathering and encounter. At lower levels, this void transforms itself into an outdoor landscaped terrace, allowing staff for interaction and exchange, or simply enjoying a break.
Robotics Engineering Laboratory
Robotics Engineering Laboratory is designed to provide space for testing and manufacturing of robots. The lab building adapts a larger column grid of 12x9m to maximize flexible space, it also consists of a series of vaulted cast-in-place skylights, bringing natural light into the large plant. The lab building is accentuated with brick veneered precast concrete façade panels, adding a tone of warmth and reflecting a nostalgia of modern industrial architecture tradition visible in Kangqiao area.
