"Growing Islands" was invited to Participate in the Exhibition of the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone at the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture
Recently, the 9th Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture officially opened. This year's biennale, themed "Urban Cosmologies," focuses on sustainable, green, and ecological development under the "dual carbon" goals for cities, with an emphasis on urban strategies for addressing global climate change. The exhibition in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone, themed "Gazing at the Ocean," showcases the interplay and shaping process between human settlements and marine ecology throughout history. Atelier Ping Jiang | EID Arch was invited to participate in the exhibition.
The exhibited work, themed "Growing Islands," focuses on Chongming Island and the surrounding islands in Shanghai as a research case. It attempts to intervene in the development and planning of this archipelago with a free ecological approach. Using multimedia sound and light effects, the work simulates the growth process of the islands and envisions a new ecological archipelago landscape.
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (referred to as "Shen-Shuang") is currently the only permanent international cultural event in the world with a long-term fixed theme of urbanism and urbanization, held every two years. Since its inaugural edition in 2005, the biennale has gained significant industry influence and international recognition, becoming a shining cultural emblem of the city of Shenzhen.
