The Panda Pavilions Won 2020 MIPIM/Architectural Review Architecture Award
Recently, The Panda Pavilions, designed by EID Arch's Founding Principal, Ping Jiang, won the 2020 Future Architecture Award organized by the renowned British architectural magazine Architectural Review in collaboration with MIPIM. The design of The Panda Pavilions was widely covered by international architectural design media, including designboom and ArchDaily, and attracted significant attention when it was first published. This award follows the 2019 AIA HK Design Award, marking another prestigious recognition for the project.
Due to the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the official award ceremony, originally scheduled to take place on March 11 in Cannes, France, was regrettably canceled. The AR Awards span fifteen categories, and after careful deliberation by an international panel of experts, EID Arch, alongside prominent design firms such as MVRDV, 3XN, and Nikken Sekkei, emerged as winners. The Panda Pavilions was awarded the Jeu d’Esprit Special Prize, one of only three cross-category awards presented.
The AR Future Architecture Award, organized and presented by the international real estate investment conference and exhibition MIPIM in collaboration with the renowned architectural monthly Architectural Review, aims to recognize outstanding architectural and urban design projects from around the world that are either unbuilt or under construction. Architectural Review was founded in 1896 and has since been dedicated to reporting on architectural projects with unique design concepts. Having a project featured in the Architectural Review’s annual awards has become a prestigious honor within the architectural community. Since the establishment of the AR Awards in 2002, it has become one of the most influential awards in the international architecture industry, celebrated for its recognition of innovative and forward-thinking design.
"The design concept for The Panda Pavilions originates from the fusion of landscape, architecture, and earth art. The design not only provides an accessible pedestrian system for visitors and staff but also prioritizes creating an environmentally friendly experience for the animals, aiming to minimize ecological alienation as much as possible."
— Ping Jiang, Founding Principa, EID Architecture
Currently, the foundation excavation work for Pavilion No. 2 has been completed, and construction for Pavilions No. 1 and No. 3 is progressing in an orderly manner. The project is expected to officially open in May 2021.
